On January 30, 1948 the world lost a great man or a "great soul" if you will. Without the ways and ideals of Mahatma "great soul" Gandhi the world wouldn't be the way it is today. There is no doubt in my mind that Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most inspirational figures of all time from his pursuit of non-violence to his stance on religion itself and legacy that he left behind. Gandhi took a very strong stance on what he believed in and did whatever it took to get his knowledge and opinion to others. His political stance was simple, no violence, Gandhi wanted to rid the world of violence. In one of the most popular Gandhi quotes he says " An eye for an eye and soon the whole worlds blind" (Gandhi 2). He's saying here that if you retaliate …show more content…

The truth didn't only apply to his political views, but also when spoke about religion. Gandhi says " If we had attained the full version of truth, we would no longer be mere seekers, but would have become one with God, for the truth is God. This is some of Gandhi's philosophy in which " in an area of spiritual theory in which the very concept of tolerance is situated, not in relation to a given political or religious context, but in relation to a belief in the liberty of human conscience, Gandhi demands more than just respect for another human being" (Jahanbegloo 2). Gandhi has left behind some very inspirational quotes and stories. When Gandhi had first arrived in South Africa he was told to ride in the baggage car because there were no colored people allowed in first class, having paid for first class he refused and was then kicked off. He remembered the incident that shaped his destiny and would say " I began to think of my duty, should I fight for my rights or go back to India? It would be cowardice to run back to India. I should try, if possible to root out the disease and suffer hardships in the process." (Gandhi 2). To do this he organized sit-downs, nonpayment's, and boycotts to eventually make a difference in the South African culture. Throughout this struggle for difference Gandhi showed true grit. He also inspired a lot of people who used his idea's to inspire other Gandhi's influence, inspired people like Martin Luther King, who used Gandhi's non-violent protest and Nelson Mandela who also inspired to become the president of South Africa to make a difference. In away Gandhi influence has been passed through to other people to. Gandhi and his Legacy will live on
