Harry Houdini I. Harry Houdini was once known as the “King of Cuffs.” He was one of the most famous magicians around the globe. Houdini learned magic from other magicians like Robert Houdin. His life was poor at an early age, but prosperous later on. Harry Houdini was born in Hungary to a poor family and had no formal education, but he soon discovered magic and got very prosperous from his performances, he continued magic until he died. II. Harry Houdini was born in Budapest, Hungary March 24th, 1874, with the name Ehrich Weisz. He had six siblings. His mother was Cecelia Weisz and his father was Mayer Samuel Weisz, a Jewish Rabbi. Houdini continued into the early 1900s. He then started escaping straight jackets and locked tanks filled with water. “In 1912, his act reached its pinnacle, the Chinese Water Torture Cell, which would be the hallmark of his career. In it, Houdini was suspended by his feet and lowered upside-down in a locked glass cabinet filled with water, requiring him to hold his breath for more than three minutes.” (Biography.com). Houdini starred in many movies, including The Grim Game, The Master Mystery, Terror Island, and The Man From Beyond. He eventually started his own movie company called Houdini Pictures Corporation. He also debunked spiritualism, ideas of psychics, and Robert Houdin (his favorite magician) IV. Houdini never retired from the game. He continued magic until his death. Houdini’s most famous act was the Chinese Water Torture Cell. He continued this act until his death. Houdini died on Halloween, 1926.
