Self-driving vehicles are an emerging, and seemingly inevitable technology. The ability for cars, trucks, and industrial vehicles to pilot themselves has the potential to transform the lives of a large portion of the population by rendering their jobs obsolete. The software that powers these vehicles is unproven, and many safety concerns exist for self-driving vehicles operating on public roads. Considering the lack of clear rules and regulations regarding the use of autonomous, and semi-autonomous vehicles, this technology presents unique moral and ethical dilemmas. While driverless vehicles have the potential to convenience drivers and optimize efficiency on public roads, they also have the potential to render the jobs of millions of Americans obsolete. Trucking jobs represent a significant form of employment in areas where not many other forms of employment exist -- special consideration should be taken when developing policy that could eliminate these jobs. When it comes to the safety of self-driving vehicles, according the most recent annual report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were more than 32,000 fatal crashes on United States highways in 2015 (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2015). The number of fatalities from self-driving vehicles is currently extremely low, but as the technology continues to spread, the number will inevitably rise. This has the potential to impact any driver who operates on public roadways. Policies developed to regulate self-driving vehicles should also take special consideration in the protecting the safety of
