To me, Thanksgiving is time of celebration and giving thanks. Celebrating and thanking loved ones, friends, food and just being able to fellowship with each other for another year. Thanksgiving is one of the only holidays out of the year that the entire family actually comes together, gossip, watch sports, and talk about different stories and experiences that have happened to them. Thanksgiving also consists of reminiscing. Looking through old photos, documents, and videos that has been accumulated and stored over the years. To me, Thanksgiving is the best holiday of the year but others might think otherwise. In the New World, the first thanks giving ever recorded took place in 1621. This thanksgiving consisted of Plymouth colonists and native Indians coming together and giving thanks for a successful harvest. Due to lack of accurate information, the teachings of this thanksgiving was merely a myth. The real meaning behind thanksgiving was to celebrate an English victory over the Indians. Thanksgiving back in the 1600s was a time of suffering and mourning for the American Indians as the settlers came and destroyed their graves and corn storages. Another myth that was taught differently in school was what they ate during the first Thanksgiving. It was taught that turkey, popcorn, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, and sweet corn were all on the menu for the thanksgiving supper but this was not the case. This information was also incorrectly mentioned, reason being is because most of the key ingredients to make these food items were not discovered at the time.
