The Help directed by Tate Taylor is a film about the town of Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960s during the Black Civil Rights period. A white female, Skeeter takes on the stories of coloured maids to write a book that would go onto sell worldwide to help get the uncommonly heard point of view of the help be heard. A common theme that features throughout the film is resilience. I agree strongly with the way Skeeter as a character was used to take action in order to help the coloured community. Skeeter and the maids had to go through so many struggles and challenges to get the point of view of these maids out there for everyone to realise how poorly they were being treated. Having shown a white women take action and put so much effort in to help the coloured people isn't a common thing we see when it comes to films associated with the black civil rights. The director liked to subtly link parts of the movie to how bad the whole situation could turn. Abilene showed resilience by realising she needs to make a stand and she can't continue to live in these poor conditions. I found this really made an emotional connection with the audience and the character. It showed that in life your biggest fears can be your greatest encouragement to make a change in our lives. This film really showed how resilient people can be if they want to make a difference. When Skeeter witnessed how poorly the help was treated she decided to take a stand.
