When describing the perfect utopian society, often individuals describe it as being a place with comradery amongst citizens and thus free of conflict. However little thought is often given in regards to how this form of group cohesion will be achieved. For there to be conformity, the tendency of one to alter their behaviours and beliefs to that of the group, there must be some central power enforcing members to follow the rules and guidelines of such society (DeLemanter, Myers, & Collett, 2015). Behaviour that fails to conform to the groups established norm will not be tolerated and must be corrected (DeLemanter, 2015). However, the introduction of deviance can often spark others to break away from the previous social norms (DeLemanter, 2015).

Therefore, it is difficult to imagine if one's own personal liberty no longer existed due to the fact that their only concern was the betterment of their society. In the detailed study written by Ayau he discusses that cooperation is the key to everyone becoming wealthy. Ayau argues that cooperation is the balance to the economy versus the psychological satisfaction one tends to feel when they trade something. In today’s society we are use to giving something in order to receive something whether it is through making a payment or trade. Ayau provides an in depth explanation of how the process of trading works in chapter two by breaking down the gains in a mental exercise. Even though we do not use a mental exercise to consider gains in trading, we do however initiate a cost-benefit analysis.
The political system that the community of Walden Two is establishing is one that values what is ideal for the success of the community as a whole over the individual belief systems of each member. Although members of Walden Two were able to submit to being told the right way to vote on communal issues, this type of conditioning would not be effective in Scituate because of the strong-willed opinions and beliefs that members of the town frequently express. In Chapter 2, the author speaks heavily on biblical principles of unity and conflict resolution (Elm-p26). And it is not necessarily that I disagree with him, but when I attempt to translate the ideas into a different cultural context I can see problems arising. For example, Elmer (p24) speaks on conflict as being irritations, misunderstandings or unmet expectations that bring conflict, resulting in disunity. However, I see this as more as an individualistic issue or something that is commonly present in a Western culture. I am not saying it cannot arise in a communal culture, but in most cases I think it is more prevalent in an individualistic society.

Political scientists and historians have always been on the opposite sides on the subject of how a decision is made. Political Scientists claim that by knowing a few details into the major players prior preferences that all future actions can be predicted by using that Rational Actors Model. However, historians refute this theory arguing that without knowing the context or the environment of the player, one can never truly understand the decision making process. By using the events which led to the internment of Japanese Americans I hope to show that any event can fit the model in hindsight but at the time of the actual decision there could have been many options for Japanese Americans short of internment.
By putting everyone in a place with a purpose, maintaining social stability is a simple thing to do. “‘Stability,’ said the Controller, ‘stability. No civilization without social stability. No social stability without individual stability’” (Huxley, 42).
How can friendship be defined by one concept with the knowledge of different perspectives. The common definition of friendship is a relationship with two people who are friends. My definition of friendship is the bond between two people form based on trust, respect, and loyalty towards each other. The characters in the story “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck are examples of this word. The two main characters George and Lennie have a friendship that has both its peaks and valleys.

Adam Smith said upon man’s “propensity to barter, truck and exchange one thing for another” (Polanyi 43). Before, people saw themselves socially, in the sense that the economy was engulfed or overwhelmed in social relation of the society. But Polanyi’s view of the market society contradicts this as he views the market society in the sense that social relations are grounded or submerged in the economy.
The first major piece of United States health care legislation started with our 2nd president, John Adams who in 1798 signed an Act for the ill-stricken and disabled seamen. Within this act, it stated that from a seamen’s paycheck that twenty cents per month would be allocated to cover any medical bills.
