Responsibility In Jerry's A Mother In Mannville

Jerry, from the "A Mother in Mannville", is a responsible person. He demonstrates integrity and responsibility throughout the entire story. For instance, an example of this would be when the ax handle that Jerry used to chop the wood for the narrator broke. The narrator insisted on paying for it, but Jerry refused. "I'll pay for it.", Jerry said. "I broke it. I brought the ax down careless."(4) Jerry insists that he pays for it, not the narrator, because he feels that he is responsible for the damage done. He takes the blame because he believes that he was careless. Jerry is only 12 years old in this story, but he acts far more mature and responsible than an ordinary 12 year old boy. This may be due to the fact that he's an orphan, so he had
