The reader gets to see the major factors and power shifts that gave way to Al – Qaeda being the powerhouse it became. In the last few chapters of the book Lawrence Wright talks about 9/11 the event and what came after the tragedy and how the U.S. handled them. Lawrence Wright spent nearly five years tracking down as many people as he could find who had any knowledge of what happened on this tragic day. He also tracked down people who could get him knowledge on what happened before 9/11 that caused it. Through all of this tracking down of people and research Lawrence Wright was able to form a timeline of what happened leading up to 9/11 that extended just past the event of 9/11.
