There were many events that led up to 9/11. In the book The Looming Tower Al - Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 by Lawrence Wright the reader gets to see what led up to 9/11. The reader gets to see the major factors and power shifts that gave way to Al – Qaeda being the powerhouse it became. In the last few chapters of the book Lawrence Wright talks about 9/11 the event and what came after the tragedy and how the U.S. handled them. Lawrence Wright spent nearly five years tracking down as many people as he could find who had any knowledge of what happened on this tragic day. He also tracked down people who could get him knowledge on what happened before 9/11 that caused it. Through all of this tracking down of people and research Lawrence Wright was able to form a timeline of what happened leading up to 9/11 that extended just past the event of 9/11. The majority of this book has to do with the people who were involved with 9/11 attacks heir motives and personalities, and how they interacted. He was said to be the puppeteer behind Osama bin Laden. He was born in Egypt to a well-regarded conservative family. Zawahiri was heavily influence by many radical thinkers including Qutb. He joined a group of Egyptian men in an underground group, who wanted to replace the secular regime in Egypt. They wanted to replace it with a purified religion and then expand it into other countries. Zawahiri was the one behind inventing the suicide bomber even though both killing and suicide are clearly against Islam. Zawahiri was a driving force in turning Qutb’s dream into a reality.
