I will now be writing my book report project with seven historically accurate technologies represented in this book at the time period. The book that I chose this time was “Waiting for the rain” By Sheila Gordon. The main character of this novel is Tengo. He is a black kid who grows up on a farm raised by white people. Tengo is a good kid who is trying to get an education and get a scholarship to college. Frikkie is also a nice and friendly kid who loves to go on adventures and hang out on the farm with the animals. His favorite thing to do is milk the cows. THis book takes place in south africa. Tengo and Frikkie played the game a lot throughout the story. Another key historically accurate thing going on was the term “Kaffir”. This was a slang word used to describe black people at the time which is now commonly known as “Nigger”. This term was used against Tengo in the book which offended him a lot. This was just a small piece of the social inequality going on at the time. Going along with the racial inequality theme one of the biggest and if not the most important historically accurate thing in the novel was the racial problems. This was the main problem in the story which was Tengo and Frikkie friendship due to this problem. Tengo was black and Frikkie was white which wasn't really a good matchup at the time period but they were still best friends. Frikkie and his uncle misunderstood the history of their own country which kept them discriminating people of different color. Another thing in the story I noticed that was at the time period was the ANC or the African National Congress. The ANC is used to help people of different skin colors get the things they deserve such as various rights that they have as a
