2023 American Nurse Project The American Nurse documentary depicts the lives of five nurses working in different areas of nursing. It shows us what each of them does in their nursing practice and how each differs from the rest. While watching this, I noticed a sense of care these nurses have with the patients they are helping. A prison nurse shows no judgment toward the patients that are under her care. She states that she would rather not know what the inmate did but rather just focus on the person itself. Furthermore, a home health nurse goes out of his way to travel to his patient's homes regardless of weather conditions and his own personal safety. Instead of being more focused on the patient's past, I could look forward and never judge them based on what they did. The prison nurse just sees a person who needs help and perhaps I should do the same in order to show a more caring manner toward my future patients. I knew they are many different types of nurses but I never really got to see what it is they actually do in their practice. It was very eye-opening to see how much impact a nurse can have on someone's life. It made me feel different knowing that nursing can do so much for others even if you do not see it in yourself. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is thinking about nursing or is just interested to learn about the field. Personally, I do think the average person does know what a registered nurse does for a living. However, I do not think they know how in-depth nursing can be as there are so many different types of nursing. When someone thinks about what a nurse does for a living, they usually answer that they help people. Although not wrong, there is so much more to it than that and I do not think the average person knows what a registered
