Ellen DeGeneres made a commencement speech at Tulane University in 2009. Since she is a comedian, DeGeneres included comedy as well as heartfelt stories to her speech. Her speech was very well thought out and it seemed that she connected with her whole audience. She made jokes towards the professors, students, and parents. That made her very relatable even if she is a celebrity. In her speech, she included pathos and some ethos in her speech, however, there was not much logos present. Ellen DeGeneres’ speech told a story. It talked about her life and how she got to become the person she is today. All of the things that DeGeneres says have meaning to her and becomes meaningful to the audience. Some commencement speeches work and others don’t.
