Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Mayor Michael Bloomberg

The speech has a traditional structure, in which it contains a sender, a recipient and a message. The sender is of course Mayor Michael Bloomberg, since he is the person giving the speech. Bloomberg’s goal as the sender is to be able to address his audience accordingly, in order for him to appeal to the audience in favour of him, and thereby make sure that the audience receives his message.
In the speech, it is clear that the recipients are the religious leaders present (P.3 l.5), though it is likely that along with the religious leaders, New Yorkers and other politicians might be present. These people a vital, keeping in mind that the essence of the speech is focusing on appealing to them by using pathos.
