In “The Biggest Loser” (October 23, 2015), Paul Krugman asserts that the Benghazi committee is a witch hunt and that ¨Trey Gowdy and company” are chumps. Mr. Krugman illustrates his displeasure with the committee and the head of it, Trey Gowdy, through belittling diction and Rhetorical question. He uses this choice in diction and rhetorical question in order to deter anyone from taking the accusations of the committee seriously by calling not only the committee “chumps” and but anyone who listens to the committee an ¨ even bigger chump” then the committee is. Krugman appeals to his more liberal audience by talking about the committee, and its tea party support, with a tone of contempt by using insulting diction like “loser” and “chump”.

My Rhetorical Analysis Language is a part one’s identity and culture, which allows one to communicate with those of the same group, although when spoken to someone of another group, it can cause a language barrier or miscommunication in many different ways. In Gloria Anzaldua’s article, “How to Tame a Wild Tongue”, which was taken from her book Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza, she is trying to inform her readers that her language is what defines her. She began to mention how she was being criticized by both English and Spanish Speakers, although they both make up who she is as a person. Then, she gave convincing personal experiences about how it was to be a Chicana and their different types of languages. Moreover, despite the fact that her language was considered illegitimate, Anzaldua made it clear that she cannot get rid of it until the day she dies, or as she states (on page 26) “Wild tongues can’t be, they can only be cut out.”
Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.

I am here tonight to announce my candidacy for the presidency and I would start off by expressing my gratitude for your support because let's face it, I wouldn’t be here without you and to be honest, I wasn't even going to run for the presidency but I live by a certain creed, one that runs in my blood and this being that you should never accept the world as it appears to be, always dare to see it for what it could be. But is natural for us to accept the illusions of hope. We opt to shut our eyes from the painful truth.
The essay I chose is “The Top Reason to Adopt a Pet” by the Humane Society. The reason I chose this particular essay is adoption is very near and dear to my heart and I think everyone should adopt pets. The author organizes the essay using eight different points of why you should adopt a pet. Also the author doesn’t use high style to get her point across.
The main argument of the essay is how to effectively read an essay. The author wants the reader to try out a different way of reading. He points out that we need to fully understand rhetoric to be able to analyze an essay properly. He states that learning the art of persuasion can be difficult, but it will help break down an essay into parts. He also advices taking notes while reading to fully grasp what the author is trying to say.
The lesson I chose to analyze was the first lesson I taught this semester. I taught a lesson on the Battles of Lexington and Concord on October 14, 2015. It was a lesson on learning how to analyze primary sources and using a graphic organizer to help understand the material. The students read two primary source documents, one was a diary entry from a British general, and the other was a statement 34 minutemen swore to before the Justices of the Peace. They had a graphic organizer for each and used that to guide them through the reading.
This paper was probably one of the hardest paper I had to write just because I felt like I was on my own. I was scared at first but i felt like this helped me learn how to properly look and analyze a speech or a writing in general. One way this helped was I highlighted what I thought was a rhetorical device and I had to properly analyze it and see what he/ she is trying to accomplish through his or her writing.
While creating my rhetorical analysis paper I used all of my typical writing processes. I began this assignment by selecting a commercial that I thought would be the most appealing in the superbowl. After selecting my commercial I did some research at the library using EBSCOhost. I then created an outline on what my paper would be about and pieced all of its parts together. In the future I will try to recieve help earlier on because at first I struggled to understand what the purpose of the paper was.
Reflection Paper One of the most difficult skills I struggled to improve during my semester enrolled in ENG 108 was grammar and organization. Luckily, through the assignments of various types of writing and after being given multiple opportunities to practice my English skills, I am proud to say that I am come out of this class with a renewed sense of accomplishment and a better control of my mastery of this language. When thinking about all of the beneficial assignments I completed in this class, perhaps the most beneficial, in my opinion, was the critical evaluation essay. For me, this assignment had the most universal impact on me because the topic I chose to write about touch various aspects of my life.
Introduction Writing is both a fundamental and technical skill that one has to learn in the entire life. Individuals only become better writers, but it is quite rare to find experts in this field. Through the unit of study, I noted that I could perfect my writing, but this has to go alongside the acceptance of correction whether from peers or the tutor. Therefore, I believe that the unit has helped shove the notion of getting good results without working for them. In my reflection, I would like to trace my journey before and after the unit of study.
Kathryn Stockett successfully uses rhetorical devices to get the reader to feel and understand the perspectives of the protagonists. Stockett uses pathos, ethos, and logos in her book, since the book about social injustice. The topics in the book range from inequality of the sexes to social classes and racism, Stockett is successful in getting the reader to reflect while reading the book and the themes of the book have a clear presence. We see Stockett use ethos and pathos in the very first chapters when we learn that Hilly doesn't like Minny and Minny doesn't want to say why at first, but the incident with Ms. Holbrook was affecting her chances of getting a job because of the influence Hilly has over this suburban society. In some instances where Stockett uses ethos, pathos is also included in her writing.
