One of the most difficult skills I struggled to improve during my semester enrolled in ENG 108 was grammar and organization. Luckily, through the assignments of various types of writing and after being given multiple opportunities to practice my English skills, I am proud to say that I am come out of this class with a renewed sense of accomplishment and a better control of my mastery of this language.
When thinking about all of the beneficial assignments I completed in this class, perhaps the most beneficial, in my opinion, was the critical evaluation essay. For me, this assignment had the most universal impact on me because the topic I chose to write about touch various aspects of my life. Through this essay, I was able to evaluate a long standing position on one of my favorite pieces of technology, and the android operating system. Although I was familiar of the concepts of rhetorical strategies of ethos, logos and pathos, this assignment helped further my understanding of them and applied to them critically in my examination of literary work. Oddly enough, the more I studied these rhetorical strategies, the more I realized their application in a variety of other written works. Whether the grand appeals to pathos and editorial and journalistic writing or the huge demand of logos present in educational works, these devices are used as a means to an end. As an aspiring business student, I now know that I can apply these to my writings as well. For example, writing the email or citing a report source would necessitate ethos and possibly pathos as well. Anything written in business will be communicated in a timely manner utilizing Kairos. These are just some of the many ways I learned in ENG 108 and have applied it to the outside
