Richard M. Nixon was elected the 37th president of the United States. He was previous to his election, a member of the U.S Representatives and was a U.S Senator for California. As he came into office he strived to better our current economy and cultural divides that were at main concern during this present time. Many overlooked the things Nixon did for the United States through his presidency as he expanded foreign relations, set a foundation for environmental regulations and amazingly improved women's rights. Overall, Nixon had did some amazing things for this country but his overall efforts affected the United States in a awful way. (“Richard M. Nixon”, 1)

This was because at this time American society was divided over the issues of domestic racism and the U.S in the Vietnam War. He wanted to bring peace back to the world. (Drew, Elizabeth) He accomplished having done well for the U.S in the way of improving revenue sharing, the end of the draft, new anticrime laws, and a broad environmental program. He tried to, like he promised to appoint Justices of conservative philosophy to the Supreme Court. As well, he went to Beijing and Moscow in 1972, he tried to settle down the disagreements and friction with China and the U.S.S.R. He met with the Russian leader Leonid I. Brezhnev who made a treaty to limit nuclear weapons, which was pretty important. (“Richard Nixon Biography”). His most important achievements were made in the area of foreign policy. So when he visited China in 1972 he brought it out of dangerous isolation. He was went to Moscow, where he managed the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty, on his path to a more equal and peaceful country. He went on to save Israel from near annihilation in the 1973 war and eventually signed the peace treaty with North Vietnam. At the end of his time as president he had done amazing things for other countries and had made peace to millions. He tried to do many good deeds during his presidency but as I talked about earlier, his personality made him do anything and everything he has to do to succeed for him and his country.
