Richard Reid Argumentative Essay

267 Words2 Pages
Our current security measures would not flag Smith in the situation described. However, this question does necessitate the assumption that Smith is successful in two of the most difficult feats ahead of a terrorist such as himself. For one, we are assuming Smith is able to smuggle an explosive device aboard the airplane. Not only the device itself, but whatever triggering device he chooses to detonate the device. In the case of Richard Reid, he was able to smuggle the device itself aboard but failed in his attempts to detonate it. The second assumption is that Smith has radicalized and planned an attack without anyone noticing. This would not be without precedent, however, we fortunately see failure in this category more often than success.
