Richard Wagner believed in the principle of “total work of art” which meant to combine poetry, music, drama, and dance in one. He wanted to ensure that his Operas contained all of these elements to immerse his audiences into a total experience. During his time in Dresden in 1845, he often clashed with the orchestra and court officials over its staging, a clear indication of his desire to have full control over everything that was happening during his performances. Such was his desire to do so, that he envisioned the creation of an opera house capable of having the stage aesthetics he envisioned to present his work exactly how he wanted to the public.
