Rick Riordan and John Green are popular chroniclers of teen struggles. Both authors are similar yet different. They each have different characteristics, one is a vlogger on YouTube and the other a former teacher, but there are related features. The similarities areboth write books for young adults and preteens. The authors have varied audiences despite working in the same genre for kids and young adult’s; the readers vary in ages. Both of these authors appeal to me many because the characters face genuine problems that are based in reality. Even though the selections arefictional, the authors bring a certain realism to the examplesituations. For example, a character doesn’t fit in and has trouble at school because of a psychological disorder. Another is a girl with cancer, whom struggles with the disease and how to deal with it. Last but not least is a boy with a stepfather who hit him and his mother. In my opinion, both of these authors wrote these specific stories to help readers handle difficult situations. These authors are considered to be the greatest authors of our age, they place a certain amount of realism in their books. He states that he can’t decide which is his favorite book from the ones he has written. He has written more than 30 books and is continuing to write more. The genres are mostly mystery, children’s, action, adventure and mythology. When he was a child, Rick started to write short stories. As he became older and had children, he created a bedtime story for his children and wrote it later as a book. An example of an action and adventure book he has written is The Red Pyramid. In mythology, he wrote The Blood of Olympus. The Big Red Tequila is a mystery he has written.
