Percy Jackson-The Lightning Thief is a greek mythology book about a kid named Percy who is blamed for stealing the god Zeus’ master bolt. After many encounters with enemies, and evil gods, Percy returns the master bolt and prevents a world war in doing so. The book was released in 2005 by Rick Riordan, while the movie adaptation was released in 2010. There were many things left out of the movie that were in the book. In this paper, I will argue about the differences between the book and movie, and about their significances.
The scene occuring on my bookmark is is from Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. In this specific scene, Percy and Annabeth are sailing in the sea where the Sirens are. This scene takes place near the sea where the Sirens are. Annabeth wants to hear these Sirens sing, but knowing that she’ll go mad if she hears them, she tells Percy to tie her up so she can't get away.
If I were to give you a choice between reading a book or watching the movie? which would you choose? I bet a lot of you said movie. If you said book you don’t need to read this. Here are reasons books are better than movies.
Odysseus defies the suitors and wins his wife and kingdom back. Despite Odysseus' overconfident nature, Odysseus proves he is a hero by showing bravery and intelligence. When it comes to being a hero, being brave is one of the most
Athena is a major character throughout the book of The Odyssey and is known as the goddess of wisdom and battle. Throughout the course of the book, it is evident that Athena has a weak spot for the main character, Odysseus. Odysseus is trying to return home after the Trojan War, as the other Greek hero’s have already done, however he faces multiple challenges a long the way. Fortunately, for Odysseus, Athena was there to guide him through a few of these troubling situations.
Bravery, defined as, courageous acts of one’s character. The main person in this epic poem to demonstrate the act of bravery would be, Beowulf himself. Beowulf’s battle with Grendel shows true courage. Beowulf then “took off the helmet and handed the patterned sword”. (672-673)He was completely unarmed as described in the lines previous.
Odysseus bravery, courage, and cleverness was a great help throughout his journey for faceing many things. With all of these qualities Odysseus is a epic hero thought out this whole story.
Heroes are, “People who take risks despite fear”(Source 2). In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus faces many challenges that make him a hero. He battles monsters, goddesses, and enchantresses. Odysseus is a hero in the way that he uses his brain to think about and approach dilemmas. When he and his men are on the Cyclops’ island, Odysseus tells the cyclops that his name was Nobody.
An epic hero is a brave and noble character in an epic poem or a movie. Some epic heroes include: Percy Jackson (Percy Jackson movie series), Odysseus (Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey), Shrek, Harry Potter (Harry Potter movie series), Aragorn (Lord Of The Rings), and many more. Some similar traits between these two characters is that they are both brave and believe in the people helping them through their conquests.
The first book that I ever read was called Percy Jackson: The Lightening Thief. This book was, and still is, one of the only books that I will read from beginning to end. Percy Jackson and I had similar features from the way the author had described him. We both had long swoopy hair and blue/green eyes, the only differences are that Percy had ADHD and dyslexia. I could relate to this book throughout my middle/high school career.
Beowulf definitely displays multiple examples of courage, such as fighting Grendel barehanded and going to fight a dragon alone, but the most pronounced example is when Beowulf goes to fight Grendel’s mother, his second trial. Her home is a disgusting, murky lake that’s “infested with… sea-dragons / and monsters” (1425) and so deep that “the mere bottom has never been sounded by the sons of men” (1367-1368). Even the creatures that live around it would rather die than dive under the water’s surface. Beowulf makes a big deal out of how terrifying her home is, expressing how the warriors who arrived at her home were “not man enough / to face the turmoil of a fight under water / and the risk to [their] life” (1468-1470). But Beowulf is willing to.
Percy Jackson and the sea of monsters Analysis Have you ever wanted to be able to use god-like powers? In Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan, Percy has to travel through the bermuda triangle while facing his greatest rival and his yacht full of monsters! The Protagonist Percy Jackson is poseidon's son making him a demi god ( demi god means he’s half human and half god), he has the ability to control water, he is also the chosen one that can either save the world or destroy it! Luke Percy’s arch rival is trying to resurrect Kronos a god that would kill his children and everything in his path! The book is a mythical fiction and takes place in the unforgiving bermuda triangle.
Athena is known as the goddess of war. Odysseus was aided by her ideas on how to regain power through her tactical skills. The fact that the goddess warrior was on his side through the journey home, reclaiming his land, and killing the suitors was a huge advantage. Athena is very intelligent in how she strategizes and won wars in the past. Some may argue that Odysseus is the real hero but there were many times throughout The Odyssey where he needed Athena’s protection and input of logical ideas.
Yes, Beowulf is brave, but not because he wants to do the right thing, he wants gold and glory. Beowulf is known as a great hero and on the surface he is. He seems to be brave and just but underneath that, Beowulf is extremely arrogant and egotistical. Beowulf does not just do things for they are the right thing to do, he does them seeing that great deeds will bring him honor and boost his reputation. He fights Grendel for bragging rights like the swimming contest Unferth brought up and he refuses to use a sword when fighting Grendel because it will just add to his bravery.
“Life doesn't cost him a thought” (Heaney 1536). This quote shows bravery because he is brave and confident in himself that he will fight to the fullest when he battles monsters it's like he's not scared of death and real quick to risk his life to save or help others. “Yet the prince of the rings was too proud to line up with a large army” ( 2345-2346). This quote shows bravery because it shows he’s too proud to fight with an army he rather fight one on one and that shows that he is brave and not afraid. “I shall win the gold by my courage, or else mortal combat, doom of battle, will bear your lord away” (2535-2537).
