At the onset of the late 19th century, the US experienced an influx of new industries, some of which were dominated by a single corporation. With the invention of the Bessemer process, the industries of steel, oil, and railroads boomed. These industries came to be dominated by the companies of industrialists such as Andrew Carnegie, John Rockefeller, and Cornelius Vanderbilt, respectively. Overall industrialization had a big impact on the way our country developed. Industrialization effected the economic development of the United States in Numerous ways. For example, according to document 1a from 1860 to 1910 the value of manufactured products increased from $1.9 billion to $20.8 billion. That’s a 10 times increase in products made meaning more products were sold making the economy stronger.
Inventions helped Industrialization because “ They encouraged new industries, which in turn produced more wealth and jobs.” (Appleby etal 288). These inventions started to change the way people lived. Consumers and even corporation owners enjoyed these inventions. Now there were machines that could do work very fast.
Between the 1820s and 1860s, a time period that was greatly influenced by the Industrial Revolution, people were willing to work hard so that they could provide for their families. Slaves were still being used to help develop the United States of America by harvest crops such as cotton, and please their “masters.” were forced to work and help develop the country. Both slavery and industry helped the country grow financially. Slaves had to work harder to meet higher cotton demands. The introduction of the cotton gin also aided in the aided in the rapid production of cotton (PIIP 9).
The expansion of industry contributed to the changes in many noneconomic arenas during the Gilded Age. To begin, as the industry grew during this era we also saw the rise of the middle class people. As a result, politics now changed to reflect the middle class interests. For example, politicians began protesting poverty and corruption. Also, the country saw a change in their global connections.
Industrialization skyrocketed during The Gilded Age. People became millionaires, monopolies arose, and many jobs were created as a result. However, because there were no regulations, workers were exploited by monopolists. Political Machines took advantage of immigrants by bribing their votes in exchange for helping them assimilate into American culture, Americanizing them. Americanization is the process to assimilate immigrants into American culture.
From the era of Reconstruction to the end of the 19th century, the United States underwent an economic transformation marked by the maturing of the industrial economy, the rapid expansion of big business, the development of large-scale agriculture, and the rise of national labor unions and industrial conflict. America was home to the three key factors of production: land, labor and money, which allowed America to industrialize very quickly. In a time after the Civil War, when a transcontinental railroad was created connecting the East and West, people began to move and settle across the country, creating new urban cities and manufacturing hubs. Like this machine, new technology saved time, labor, and money for industries.(Appleby) The growth of factories causes people to move into more urban areas like big cities.
This caused America to flourish with new inventions, for example the automobile, household machinery, television, etc. Even old inventions and ideas were improving, like the radio, movies, and the use of advertising. The radio, movies, driving, and buying the various new products became a part of the daily lives. These inventions created a sense of ease for daily lives in America in the 1920s. It made life, jobs, and experiences easier.

Before then, America 's population had mostly lived out in the farms and ranches of the country, but that was about to change when more and more people started to move to the cities for work.
