The River Simulation assignment had been a fun and educating experience in my perspective. I believe that it has a connection to civics due to the decisions that the leader and his diplomats had to make with the villagers for their survival. My role as a diplomat had been important to Titan’s success because during the stage of diplomacy it was my job to advocate the decisions of my leader. The assignment let me experience a small but persuasive fraction of civics which was enjoyable for the class and used everyone’s intellect. Although I am aware that one day had been added to the original amount of time that students were given to complete this assignment, I would have preferred to have more time to further develop the simulation and see the results of our leaders’ plans. Even so, I enjoyed the exercise and am grateful that I had a chance to participate in it. I found the simulation exhilarating because of the strategies that we had to put in action and the surprises that we had to retaliate against. The discussions we made during the simulation made it feel realistic, although our discussion was not nearly as sophisticated as a real government’s conferences would be. I learnt about the significance that citizens have on the decisions of the government and their leaders in a democracy. The insignificance that they have in a dictatorship was also made apparent by how certain members responded in the groups where I made offers. The power of communication and interpersonal skills was very apparent in this assignment. I enjoyed this assignment and would look forward to take part in such an activity similar to this in the
