Roald Dahl was one of my favorite authors while I was growing up. I have read many different books that Roald Dahl has written. The books I have read include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, and The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me. I like Roald Dahl so much because he always wrote interesting stories. As a kid, it was hard for me to find a book that I could get interested in. One day, my teacher introduced me to the book Matilda, and I loved it. After I read Matilda, I continued to read more books by Roald Dahl. Some people say that they could not get into Roald Dahl’s books because he has a different style of writing, but I think this makes his stories more unique. During his time as a member of the Air Force, Roald Dahl crash-landed in Alexandria, Egypt. He was severely injured and had to have many surgeries. Roald Dahl’s surgeries consisted of a hip replacement surgery, skull injuries, and two spinal surgeries. Due to this incident, Roald Dahl was not able to continue his duties in the Royal Air force, and got transferred to Washington, D.C., where he became an assistant air attaché. While in Washington, D.C., Roald Dahl wrote many articles for magazines and newspapers. In 1942, Roald Dahl wrote his first children’s book, The Gremlins, which was purchased by Walt Disney.
In 1953, many things happened for Roald Dahl. He married actress Patricia Neal, and also published his best-selling story, Someone Like You. During Roald Dahl’s thirty year marriage, many tragedies struck their family. From losing a child to measles, and his only son getting hit by a car, to his wife having a brain hemorrhage. During his thirty year marriage, he told his children bed time stories.
