In every business, there is always room for improvement, no business is perfect in every aspect regarding the products, the employees, and the customers. Therefore, it is very important to implement measurements that support the overall business strategy. However, there is no one strategy that fits all and that can be used in every business. What better way to learn more in-depth about performance measurement than through a real-life interview of someone who has undergone many performance evaluations throughout their career? I had the privilege of interviewing Mr. Robert Contreras on Sunday, October 29th and I gained a lot from his performance measurements. Mr. Contreras has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and currently serves as Plant Operations Manager for a glass company in Tennessee, he has been in manufacturing management in the glass industry for nineteen years and has held multiple roles in all facets of business management. Since Mr. Contreras has been a part of management for years and have been evaluated on his performance and has handled performance measures, I considered him a knowledgeable candidate for this interview. Mr. Contreras: I have utilized KPI's, (Key Performance Indicators) with a heavy emphasis of Continuous Improvement for the majority of my career. Therefore, my favorite has been using the KPI's. It has taught me that by tracking what is important to our business model, things will not get overlooked if subpar performance is occurring. KPI's are managed hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly and provide real time data.
