Robert Goddard was an American physicist and inventor known for creating the first liquid fueled rocket. Goddard is known as the father of American rocketry as his first model of his liquid fueled rocket is still used today as a base for modern rockets. Goddard's contributions to the field of astronautics have been crucial to the advancement of this field and have immortalized Goddard as one of the greatest rocket scientists of all time.
During Goddard's experiment was the age we all know as the "Roaring twenties". IN the "Roaring twenties", there was a big economic boom in America due to World War I. However, in the hometown of Goddard (Worcester Massachusetts), a huge rise of the Ku Klux Klan emerged, making it as a sort of base of operations …show more content…

Robert Goddard was born on October 5, 1882 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Nahum Danford Goddard and Fanny Hoyt Goddard. As a child, Goddard suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis; however, he still kept up with his studies. Ever since his youth, Goddard was fascinated with the idea of space travel. According to Goddard's diary, he even had an “Anniversary Day” in which he “imagined how wonderful it would be to make some device which had even the possibility of ascending to Mars” from the top of a tree in his backyard. In Goddard's young-adulthood, he attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he received a degree in physics. He then attempted Clark University where he received his Master’s degree and then his Ph. D a year later. While working on his doctorate, Goddard not only worked on Rocketry, he also worked on electronics such as the radio. While working on his doctorate, Goddard also began to probe at the idea of using liquid fuels such as liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen to mobilize the rocket. Also during his time working on his doctorate, Goddard created a plan for a multistage rocket, a rocket …show more content…

Luckily, he wasn't expelled. But after that, he spent his life based on research and testing. Now in 1914, Goddard got two patents: the first was for a rocket using liquid fuel, and the second was for a two-three stage rocket using solid fuel.
Goddard's greatest work was made in the 1920s-1930s were multiple things came into play. For one, Goddard's work anticipated the detailed v-2 missiles used by the Germans in World War II. He also developed the original concept of the bazooka. Although at the time, Goddard was not recognized for his work, he was highly gratified when the space age came.
Robert Goddard was an American physicist that is credited with the creation of the first liquid fueled rocket. Because of Goddard’s contributions to the field of rocketry, Goddard is considered the Father of Rocketry, and has been immortalized as one of the greatest rocket scientists of all
