In the Northeast innovations such as: textile machines broke out as a result of Samuel Slater’s English plans, the cotton gin and concept of interchangeable parts both created by Eli Whitney, as well as the sewing machine created by Elias Howe then perfected by Isaac Singer all stimulated other innovations making industrialization and manufacturing much simpler. Innovations to make tasks easier were also present in the West including one of the most important, the McCormick reaper which increased the amount of food produced in both the domestic and foreign markets. Although all of these smaller innovations were important to developing the economy, it was the transportation that really set America apart. For example, the Northeast’s economy was greatly furthered by the Erie Canal which linked the Hudson River with the Great Lakes. This effected the value of land along the route as well as industry within the state increased dramatically.
Robert Fulton was an American engineer who created the first successful steamboat. His first steamboat was originally called the North River Steamboat, but later it was called the Clermont. This steamboat was able to carry passengers between New York City and Albany. Fulton also designed the world's first steam powered warship.
During the late 1700s through the mid-1800s, there was a revolution that started. Many people came up with ideas while others just worked off those ideas. Many of those inventors during this revolution include Eli Whitney, John Deere, Jethro Wood, Robert Fulton, Cyrus McCormick, Francis Lowell, and Samuel Slater. Many inventions and innovations were created during this period of time The beginning of the revolution dealt with cotton and the way it was picked and processed.
Automobiles. Telephones. Lightbulbs. These were some of the major technological innovations created during 1865 to 1920. These creations impacted many Americans, even to this day.
Spanning from northern Minnesota to New Orleans, man quickly realized the Mississippi river could be used to transport cargo and people. With the invention of the steamboat, this idea quickly came into fruition, allowing cargo and people to travel long distances. But the river proved hazardous to traverse, with sandbars, reefs, and hanging branches especially the Upper Mississippi. Later, the construction of the Louisville and Portland canal helped expand commerce, allowing travel from Pittsburg to New Orleans. Abraham Lincoln at a young age became interested in steamboats, due to a childhood experience of earning money ferrying people across the river.
Both the Civil War and World War I had their respective shares of technological advancements prior to both conflicts taking off. Leadership found the advancements both appealing and appalling. The advancements changed the way the battles were fought, but at what cost in the beginning? With the Civil War edging closer to the horizon in 1861, a new terrifying weapon was being brought to the forefront.
Robert Fulton invented the steamboat during the Industrial Revolution. Robert Fulton was born on November 14, 1765, in Little Britain Township, PA. Robert Fulton had three siblings, which are Abraham, Mary, Isabella, and Elizabeth. Robert was able to learn to read, at home, and so, he went to Quaker. Although, Robert Fulton didn’t came up with the idea of the steamboat, he built the first working steamboat.

Robert Fulton is often miss credited for inventing the steam engine but he also invented other things he invented the first successful commercial steam boat which traveled against the Hudson River current at a steady five miles per hour and thirty two hours later the ship arrived in albany another 32 hours later the ship returned home. Fultons life wasn't all about inventing the commercial steamboat that came later in his life he helped blacksmiths with gun designs to make better weapons and when they tested them in the field the blacksmith found that Fultons designs improved the weapons and to use different materials to make the gun more durable and to make it stronger so the blacksmiths took advantage of Fulton's designs and used them for use , and he made home made rockets out of gunpowder and plastic tubes and people were amazed. During the civil war there were many technological advances, many of which were on the Union’s behalf. The telegraph, was one of the best technological advances since it helped increase the North's power of communication. By 1862 the US military 1000000 messages sent by way of telegram. At the end of 1865 the union army had 6000 miles of insulated copper wire. The South lacked telegraphs and lacked advanced communication.

The Market Revolution generated a drastic change in the United States economy and altered gender barriers while at the same time accomplishing this in a provocative manner. This economic boom occurred around the first half of the 19th Century. The economic boom was achieved by inventions such as a transcontinental railroad system which resulted in a better transportation system which improved trade and the cotton gin which sped up the rate of removing seeds from cotton fiber. However like what the great Hugo said, “The brutalities of progress are called revolutions. When they are over we realize this: that the human race has been roughly handled, but that it has advanced”.
The antebellum period in America was a time of conflict as the nation was trying to divide from English rule. Loyal british soldiers showed fidelity and honorable amounts of courage when they protected and defended the colonies as champions. Their prowess seemed far more superior and they seemed auspicious compared to their adversary who, in the end, would acquiesce and recompense the damages, which is good business acumen in my opinion. In the americas, instead of truthful and courteous loyalists, British troops were met with abhorring and abrasive people who wanted to be separated from the king’s rule, using such terrible methods from throwing acrid foods and rocks at them, or picking fights, which would end up being a terrible mistake.
Industrialize and the Gilded Age To begin I’d like to start off with a quote from Mark Twain, “What is the chief end of man?–to get rich. In what way?–dishonestly if we can; honestly if we must.” Since I read this in the book The Smart Aleck’s Guide to American History I’ve almost obsessed over it because I see it so fit for not only this era but also for current situations now. After the Civil War had ended American citizens needed something else to focus on, so what did they turn to? Inventing.
Between 1800 and 1860 two major things changed within the country. The cash crops changed from tobacco and rice to the new money maker cotton. Along with the crops changing the slave trade grew to replace the economic short fall in the Chesapeake area. These changed occurred due to the supply and demand of commonly bought goods. Another contributing factor for the crops changing was the invention of the cotton gin in 1793 and the use of cotton in textile facilities.
