What lessons can you draw from this person’s life and accomplishments?
Before I start I would like to thank Robert L. Johnson for his contribution in society. I did my assignment on Robert L. Johnson founder of Black Entertainmentt Television. He beat the odds given out to African American males at the time. He carried the mindset that “if I want to make some money, I’d better work for myself.” (Robert L. Johnson Biography.com, 2015)He understood that the opportunities he would be given were slim so he went out and made opportunities for himself. From a young age school had never been a problem for him; he graduated high school with honors. What shocked me is how he came up with the idea. Johnson sat in on Ken Silverman pitch to Claude Pepper about creating a cable channel for older Americans. Johnson later approached John Malone on his idea to have channels focused on African American entertainment, cultural themes, and lifestyles. And in 1980 BET made its debut. As he continued on in life Johnson opened up restaurants, owing an airline, to eventually selling BET. To me Johnson treated BET as the gateway to his chain of success. Selling BET was a bold decision but as an entrepreneur Johnson weighed the situation. BET was sold for 3 billion dollars; the deal required Johnson to remain CEO for five more years. Johnson then launched off RLJ Companies, this man is a machine. He kept thinking of ways to stay not only relevant but on top. RLJ is a holding company and asset management firm handling a portfolio of companies in financial services, etc. He also owned the Charlotte Bobcats for a time and founded Our Stories Films with Harvey
