At any time an event can occur that could change your mental thoughts and actions. You can’t always predict what’s going to happen or how you’re going to react to it. According to Robert Mckee “ True character is revealed in the choices a human being make under pressure” (Mckee). In the play Macbeth, shakespeare demonstrates how a single moment can change your life and reveal your character. Shakespeare shows this in Lady Macbeth and Macbeth several times throughout the play. He portrayed them as characters who struggle to maintain the role society thinks they should have. Lady Macbeth was overwhelmed when she found out her husband was declared to be Cawdor. Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth into killing Duncan and blaming it on the servants. When lady Macbeth was reading Macbeth's letter she said “What thou wouldst highly, that wouldst thou holily; wouldst not play false, And yet wouldst wrongly win. Thou’dst have, great Glamis………. Hie thee hither, That I may pour my spirits in thine ear and chastise with the valor of my tongue all that impedes thee from the golden round” (Line 19-27). She also said “The raven himself is hoarse. That croaks the fatal entrance of duncan under my battlements” (Line 37-39). Lady Macbeth showed how she can be untruthful and evil once she got opportunity to hold power. This is an example of how Shakespeare shows Lady Macbeth life change because of a single moment and how her true character was revealed.
