Intro
I will be discussing Abortions in the USA, I will discuss Roe v Wade, What the conflict is, and what effect the overturning made last year.
What is Roe vs Wade?
Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973) was a court case in 1973 argued by Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee.
Norma McCorvey, a single pregnant woman, didn’t want to keep her baby and wished to have an abortion 'performed by a competent, licensed physician, under safe, clinical conditions', but, due to her life not being at risk, she couldn’t get a ‘legal’ abortion without travelling to another jurisdiction, which she could not afford. She felt that criminalising most abortions violated her constitutional rights, so, under the pseudonym of Jane Roe, filed a lawsuit against the district

Licenced physician, James Hubert Hallford, allegedly had been arrested for violations of the Texas abortion statutes. He felt he was unable to determine whether some patients fell within or outside the exception recognised by Article 1196, (which states that licenced physicians who performed abortions in order to save the lives of pregnant women are excused from being criminalised.) and the statutes were too vague and therefore violated rights to privacy.
It was stated that the doctors were still uncertain about the impact of the law, even after the Vuitch decision, which declared that the law prohibiting the practice of abortions unless required for the woman's health or life wasn’t unconstitutionally

- Essentially, it’s because of religion.
The US is a majorly Christian country with around 70% of Americans identifying as such. Traditional Christianity, along with other religions, are against abortions, although this doesn’t mean that all religious people are pro-life. The Bible says “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward” (Psalms 127:3), essentially saying that children are a blessing and nothing less, as offspring are a gift from god. The controversial part is the proselytising, religious freedom is a right regulated by law, however attempting to impose one’s personal beliefs onto others is frowned upon, as instead of “My religion says not to get an abortion, so I won’t have an abortion” people are often saying “My religion says not to get an abortion, so no one should get an abortion”.
Pro-Lifers believe that no one should be able to have an abortion, sometimes with exceptions. Pro-Choicers believe that people should be allowed to choose whether they want an abortion or not.
What did the overturning do?
Last year you may have heard about the overturning of Roe v Wade, It was, and still is, pretty big
