In the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Stacey 's perspective of his friendships with T.J Avery and Jeremy Simms, affects the decisions Stacey decides to make in Chapter 7. Stacey finally, finally, realizes that Jeremy Simms could, and probably would be a better friend than T.J Avery, but is aware of what is going on racially between whites and blacks. I believe that Stacey knows, just how much stuff he lets T.J get away with but, just can 't seem to confront him about the behaviors he is showing and displaying to him, and his family members. Stacey is now conscious of how hurtful T.J Avery can be, but we see he continues to be his "best" friend throughout Chapter 7. would never admit to the notes being his. His mother, right then and there, whipped him and failed T.J and him on the test. This shows that Stacey is willing to sacrifice getting whipped by his own mom, just to keep and maintain his "best friend" friendship with T.J. To add on, in Chapter 7, Jeremy comes over to the Logan 's House on Christmas Evening. Jeremy proceeds to give Stacey a flute, that Stacey accepts awkwardly. After Jeremy leaves, Stacey asks Papa why Jeremy gave him the flute, and that he gave Jeremy nothing. Papa says, "maybe you did give him something". But, Stacey immediately says, no, Papa., I ain 't never given him anything '. Papa says back, not even your friendship! Stacey says that he hasn 't really given Jeremy his friendship and that he 's just a crazy kid that walks to school with them. Papa thinks that Stacey truly, truly, likes Jeremy. Stacey thinks and says that he told Jeremy he didn 't want him walking with them, but he keeps on anyway and the white kids laugh at him because he does. But, Jeremy doesn 't seem to let it bother him at all and Stacey shows that he likes him. He asks Papa if that is wrong, or fallacious. Papa said it wasn 't wrong, and
