Harlan Granger was a well respected white man who owned vast amounts of land in Mississippi during the Great Depression (1933). Although Mr. Granger owned so much land, he still wanted the 400 acres that the Logan's owned. Nevertheless, he was a greedy man who would do anything to regain possession of his land. To be greedy (greed) is “an intense or selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food” (Macmillan) There were three incidents in Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry that depicted Mr. Granger’s greed.
This book was written in the time period of the late 1850’s early 1860’s. During this time period there was a lot of racism in the world. Everywhere you went, it was segregated. Even in the schools. But that never stopped a girl named Liz.
Throughout Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry Cassie shows multiple examples of courage. Cassie Logan stands up for her family and doesn’t let her family down even if she is very young. Cassie proves her courage by standing up to Lillian Jean Simms,standing up for Little Man, and helping T.J despite the things he 's done. Cassie actions prove her courage . She is a very strong girl and lives to support her family.
Cassie is the main character in Mildred D. Taylor’s story “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry”. She is a smart, curious 9 year old. As time goes on, Cassie and her family learn many lessons throughout the book. We can see her grow and get a better understanding of how blacks were treated during the 1930’s. Cassie has many racist moments that occur to her, angering her and her family.

Everyone has courage inside of them they just have to show it. Roll of thunder hear my cry introduces Cassie,a young girl who is willing to go above and beyond to fight the injustice of segregation, and to face her broadest fears. Cassie Logan has many courageous moments in this book but the three most challenging moments are standing up to Lillian Jean, Standing up for little man, and standing up for herself at the barnett store. Through Cassie´s actions she has proved she loves her family, loves the land, and knows that segregation is NOT RIGHT. She knows that equal rights is not an option in that day and age, but she will still try to make a difference in the world.
Courage is Earned! Courage can't just be said it has to be shown. In the book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor, Mr. L.T. Morrision is the most brave, loyal, and kind person you will meet. Mr. Morrison showed courage by standing to the Wallaces, he moved Kaleb Wallace's car off the road, and when he stayed with the Logans even though he could get hurt Mr. Morrison’s actions proved that he knows what is right and he is going to stand up for that no matter what. Even though his parents were killed by whites, he stays calm and knows exactly how to deal with the situation.
People do not get to pick the color of their skin, yet skin color has caused great hardship for people in the world. Nobody gets to pick who they are, what their race is or what kind of environment they will come into when they are born, if they could I 'm sure the world would not be filled with hate or or discrimination. Courage can be found where it is least expected. In her book, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred Taylor uses Cassie as an example courage. Courage is the ability to do something, even though you are frightened of doing it, which Cassie shows a lot throughout the book. Cassie is a little girl, who is very smart, sassy, and courageous. She stands up for what she believes and helps others that need a voice.
The author demonstrates the problems in the school systems when Scout enters school she is reprimanded by her teacher, Mrs. Honeycomb for reading proficiently. She is commanded to “tell [her] father not to teach [her] anymore” and stop reading outside of school. Lee’s incongruity of the situation alerts her readers to the flaws within the school system. Lee satirizes the church when Scout and Jem are taken to church by Calpurnia, their black housekeeper, when the children’s father is unavailable. At this Christian church, the children are ridiculed for being white.

One of the main messages that Lee has (need a new word than – indicated or set out) is racism, it plays an important role which strongly impacts many character’s lives unfairly and changes the relationship between two. Harper Lee’s “To Kill A Mockingbird” shows that it is wrong to hurt someone who does no harm to you, for example, black people are innocent but no way did they have as many rights as white people did. Black people lived hard lives because society was judgemental, irrational and most importantly, racist. As Scout and Jem grow older they learn to cope, take responsibility and are introduced to new aspects of life, one of which is racism.

Rather than internalizing the racism, she acknowledges the racial stereotypes and sacrifices the expression of her cultural background and unified identity to achieve inclusion and disprove the notion that all African Americans act a certain way.
Black women are treated less than because of their ascribed traits, their gender and race, and are often dehumanized and belittled throughout the movie. They are treated like slaves and are seen as easily disposable. There are several moments throughout the film that show the racial, gender, and class inequalities. These moments also show exploitation and opportunity hoarding. The Help also explains historical context of the inequality that occurred during that time period.
