Although Capote seems to be explaining the progression of the ongoing investigation regarding Clutter family murder, his words delve deeper to explain the resounding effects that a senseless crime has had on the residents of Holcomb. Therefore, Capote depicts the shattering loss of innocence that these murders have caused to interrupt this small, tranquil community. Through structure, the author transforms the simple town of Holcomb into a dreary community. In life, a true friend is considered to be one of the most important things a person can have. Sometimes friends get in trouble, and when they do it’s your responsibility to help them. The soldier from Panos Ioannides’ story “Gregory” and Ronnie Quiller from Joseph Whitehill’s “The Day of the Last Rock Fight” both have friends that they constantly try to keep out of trouble. When in trouble, a friend will do everything in their power to assist you.

This quote represents culture, because is trying to tell us that people in Holcomb should live a life according to their religion ,because their actions affect their social circle and their community.
In the book roll of thunder hear me cry on page 129 it mama says “Baby, we have no choice of what color we’re born or who our parents are or whether we’re rich or poor. What we do have is some choice over what we make of our lives once we’re here.” this means that we cannot chose what we look like or what are family do because you cannot change your genes or dna but you can make the most out of your life also your family may not be rich but with a lot of effort you could make yourself rich. For example if you were a african american servant for a terrible owner you could make still do your best work a maybe escape to live a healthy life. So weather you come from a poor and black family you can still change and become whatever you want to be,
“(page 49). This shows that Jeremy feels at least some compassion for Stacey and his well being and that he cares enough about the situation to even want to know more about it. Furthermore, this displays just how supportive Jeremy is as he does not remain silent when he realizes that his race is the cause of the torment towards the Logan children and how he remains to follow his new acquaintances even if it means that he is forcibly loathed by others in the process. Once again, in the novel, Jeremy gives a thoughtful apology by giving a gift when he realizes that he was wrong for not standing up for Cassie when she had been forced to apologize for an incident not being her fault by Jeremy father, Mr. Simms. In the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Stacey’s perspective of friendship with T.J. and Jeremy is unique and this affects the decisions he makes in Chapter 7. Stacey allows T.J. to do almost anything around him, even though T.J. is rude and naughty. But, T.J. is still Stacey’s best friend. Stacey is pretty rude to Jeremy even though Jeremy is super nice to the Logans and T.J.’s family. Stacey’s friendship with these two boys are very different.
Ryan Wersching Ms. Harris English 8, Period 3 16 March 2023 Symbols of Family One Burmese proverb says, “In times of test, family is best.” In the realistic fiction book, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, by Mildred Taylor, the Logan family goes through many struggles in an attempt to keep their land, even when others are trying to take it from them. As the Logan family goes through their everyday life, they constantly are targets of racism and have to rely on their family and community to help them stay get through it. Throughout the book, the symbols of vehicles, land, as well as trees play a huge role in showing the unerring depths of the Logan family’s bond.
Friendship is a wonderful yet confusing thing. This concept is brilliantly displayed in Chaim Potok’s The Chosen. In the book, the main character, Reuven, and Danny Saunders become friends through an interesting turn of events during a baseball game, the short version being that Danny ended up putting Reuven in the hospital with a baseball in the eye. After Reuven gets over some feelings of bitterness towards Danny, the two grow to be great friends. There are many difficulties when it comes to friendship, but the beauty of a good friendship is that good friends can power through them.
Thomas Aquinas once said, “There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship.” In the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor, Stacey should choose T.J as his friend. T.J would make the better friend because it is socially acceptable, he is able to give important information and finally because Jeremy's family has the power to falsely accuse Stacey of a crime. T.J is a much better choice for a friend because it is socially acceptable by the community. It is Christmas and Jeremy has just come to visit and papa is talking to Stacey about Jeremy and T.J.
The need for friendship manifests itself throughout all civilizations of humanity, because humans are social creatures that learn and grow from interactions between each other. Throughout the beginning portion of the novel, Kirsten and August share a special friendship whether it be through looting abandoned houses together or sharing secrets (Mandel 39). For example, when the conductor tells Kirsten what the prophet had said to her and asks her to “keep it to herself,” Kirsten asks to share it with her friend August (64). Additionally, friendship provides companions to enjoy the highlights of life and commiserate through the valleys of life with. August also provides this latter component of friendship towards the end of the book when August and Kirsten are separated from the rest of the symphony.
Courage can be found where it is least expected. In her book, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred Taylor uses Cassie as an example courage. Courage is the ability to do something, even though you are frightened of doing it, which Cassie shows a lot throughout the book. Cassie is a little girl, who is very smart, sassy, and courageous. She stands up for what she believes and helps others that need a voice.
Have you ever felt what it was like to lose your best friend? Gene Forrester, in A Separate Peace, by John Knowles, not only has to deal with the fact that his best friend is gone, but he also has to deal with the fact that he is the reason he is gone. Gene also comes across fear during the novel. He has to face not only World War II but the war inside of his head. He struggles with a big decision, of whether Finny is his best friend.
From what I've read so far, it is clear that Stacey Logan, Jeremy Simms, and TJ Avery, characters in the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor, have very different beliefs about friendship. First, Stacey Logan believes that friendship should mean something. For example, Stacey took a whipping for TJ because he was cheating. Next, Jeremy Simms shows the reader they don't have to be the same race to be friends. He would go walk with the Logan's than ride the bus.

When we finally turn adults no one is there to remind us of what’s good and what's bad so we have to use our past experiences and our knowledge to help guide us.
