Zeus, Athena, Jupiter, Ares, Chronos, and Hades are most likely all names you have heard before, but do you know where they come from? What similarities they have? Where they differ? Roman and Greek gods, although from two completely different civilizations, share some very unique qualities. Greek mythology focuses mainly on just a collection of stories and myths about these “gods” who roamed the mortal world. As you look throughout Greek mythology you may notice that most of these gods were large muscular beings. One being that they both have unknown origins. We have no idea when these gods originated or what they even came from. Another similarity is that they have the same designations of power. Each god, whether from greek or roman beliefs, shared the same type of power(Greek gods vs Roman gods). Thirdly, they both had 21 gods and goddesses, and yes each had pretty much the same name and power. For example, Poseidon and Neptune were both the gods of the sea. Another example would be Zeus and Jupiter, they both are the kings of the gods in both mythologies(Roman vs Greek). Also, they both had a similar way of honoring their gods, they both prayed to their gods for help in their daily lives. If you couldn’t tell by now both were of course polytheistic. Each was composed of 21 gods that operated in different ways(Greek gods vs Roman gods). Most of the gods of course were designed just to fit the needs of the people, pretty evident through two very materialistic nations.
Overall, Greek and Roman gods of course had their differences, but they also were very similar on many levels. Although they were from two completely different time periods and cultures, they shared a lot of the same ideas.
