Her mother, Constance, owned a shop in town called the Thrifty Corner Apparel Shoppe. Allison was born out of wedlock and her father was out of the picture. Constance was ashamed of this fact and hide her secret past from society. The situation surrounding Allison was an example of the time period’s denial of family dysfunction.
In December 2016, I read a book called House of Secrets. This book was written by Chris Columbus and Ned Vizzini. This fictional story described an adventure that the 3 Walker children had when they got spirited away from their new home, and ended in them making it safely back. The 3 Walker children, namely Cordelia, Brendan, and Elanor, were attacked by the former owner of the home. Their parents perished in the attack.
Tara's parents are researchers that are taking a trip to Brazil for a summer, and Tara is able to now meet her mother's mother.
It starts with a very story-like introduction that seems as if you are about to enter a fantasy world, but it quickly gets serious in the first chapter describing the scene of Gareth, Jacob (JR’s little brother) discovering the bodies of his former friend and family in their home, covered in blood. The story unfolds in a rather surprising way; the police arrive at the grotesque scene to find the daughter who appears to be missing from the familial slaughter. The family is described with the highest regard with Marc and Debra (father and mother), as former substance abuse survivors that found each other and worked for everything they ever accomplished and held their family as their highest possession, as many family and friends are quick to point out.
