The Middle Ages describes the fall between Rome and the beginning of the Renaissance in the 14th century in Europe. The fall of Rome started with the death of the Roman Emperor, Theodosius I. After Theodosius came Charlemagne or Charles the Great, who rules Franks, a Germanic tribe in what is present-day Belgium. Charles the Great was a skilled military strategist, he spent most of his reign in warfare which he used it to accomplish his goals. When he first came into power, his first step was to expand his empire and conquer new territories. Charlemagne sought to bring the Germanic people into one kingdom and convert the people to Christianity.
