Act 2 scene 3 sets off by introducing Jessica, who is Shylock’s daughter, she is taking advantage of Launcelot, who is employed as a servant of Bassiano to deliver a letter to Lorenzo ,who is the acquaintance of Bassanio and the lover of Jessica. “And Launcelot, soon at supper shalt thou see Lorenzo, who is thy new master’s guest. Give him this letter. Do it secretly.” Lancelot hands the letter to Gratiano, and advises to open the letter, so he could appreciate of what is in the drafted, “ an it shall please you to break up this, it shall seem to signify”, thereafter Launcelot leaves to invite his former master Shylock , “ By your leave, sir. Marry, sir, to bid my old master the Jew to sup tonight with my new master the Christian.” Thenceforth
