The love Romeo and Juliet had for each other was undeniable but does change throughout the story. There are eight types of love eros Romeo + Juliet, Pragma Lord and Lady Capulet and Montague, ludus Mercutio, Agape Friar Laurence, Philia Mercutio + Romeo, Phiauta Tybalt, storge Nurse + Juliet, and mania Romeo + Rosaline. Eros the love about romance, passion, and attraction. Pragma is sometimes translated to practice love, referencing the kind of love grounded in duty, commitment, and practicality. Ludus is very flirtatious and fun, without the strings that come with eros and pragma. Agape is selfless love, like the kind you might associate with saintly figures like Mother Teresa or activists like Malaria. Philia is a deep, long-lasting friendship. Philautia is about self-love and self-compassion. Storge is love shared between family members and sometimes close friends. Example of eros in the text is “ as soon as they meet he grabs her and asks her to kiss him not once but twice”(Shakespeare,67). This shows eros because kissing is an example of eros as hugging and holding hands. Also, another example is “I will kiss your lips.
