Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a timeless play full of vibrant characters and presents a wide range of emotions. One of the most central themes of the play is love and all of its many types. According to the ancient Greeks, there are five main types of love: Agape, Philia, Eros, Storge, and Xenia. Every kind of love is unique and can be found between various characters throughout the play.

Agape is an unconditional and empathetic love that cannot be fully explained. Agape is the kind of love that Romeo and Juliet share for one another. Even when they are faced with seemingly impossible obstacles, their love for each other has them push through anything that stands in their way. This is exemplified when Juliet says, "O swear not by the moon, thy' inconstant moon, That monthly changes in her circled orb, Lest that thy love prove likewise variable" (pg. 111 Act 2, Scene 2).
