There are many characters who are adoring, but even those characters could be the cause for the difficulties in the lovely story about star-crossed lovers. In the Elizabethan tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, there persists a question of who is to blame for the dreadful downfall in the play. Is it Capulet for his selfish desires and rash decisions? Or is it Friar Lawrence for his incapability to follow his own advice and his extremely poor planning? This is revealing because of how Capulet is putting others' feelings behind his himself and is able to take drastic measures to ruin others' lives by not thinking about their feelings. His absence of love towards Juliet is making her fall into a hatred of him and the Capulet family. This guides her to follow a mindless plan to fake her death which results in her own downfall. Furthermore, Capulet keeps making reckless decisions, along with that he does not think of the long-term effects of his own actions, which is irresponsible for a person of his status. In contrast, Capulet is arranging a marriage and the bride, Juliet, has no knowledge of and this is exactly what Capulet and Paris are discussing, Capulet proclaims, “O' Thursday be it, then.- Go you to Juliet where you go to bed. Prepare her, wife, against this wedding day”(3.4 31-33). The idea of arranging a wedding for the daughter, Juliet, that she herself has no knowledge of is an atrocious idea for any father. Capulet is demonstrating that he did not think things through thoroughly by making Juliet despise her mother and father while he is failing to anticipate that she would rebel against the idea. Capluet's assumption that she would do nothing about it is naive, and he could have orchestrated his actions differently for a more positive outcome, rather than Juliet seeking advice from the Friar, which led to her demise.
