Romeo and Juliet is a classic story that almost everyone knows. “Classic” as in not only something that’s valued and regarded to people as something very high quality and unforgettable, but also something that will always just exist and be a thing for generations. It’s something often described as ageless, undying, and maybe even timeless for example. Classic things like jeans, music, fun, etc. It might be surprising at first, but “Romeo and Juliet” isn’t a completely original classic story composed by Shakespeare. One big difference would be with how each plays’ setting is unique and how they both impact their own stories’ theme(s) in ways that are dissimilar to each other. The focal object that sets the setting of “Pyramus and Thisbe” apart from the setting of “Romeo and Juliet” is the inclusion of nature. At the end of “Pyramus and Thisbe,” Both of the lovers are dead and Thisbe, before she dies by killing herself, pleads to the gods for the Mulberry tree’s fruit to remain a deep red color after it has been stained with her and Pyramus’ blood. This can be interpreted as a way of establishing the theme that love always ends in tragedy as something that was once white and pure like the lovers and their love for each other, has now been tarnished and will never return back to what it once was. By not adhering to a specific crowd or audience, “Romeo and Juliet” actually manages to fit in everywhere instead. This is the core reason as to what makes Romeo & Juliet such a classic.
