Conflict has been around since the start of time. Whether it is between two families, or two countries, there is always some sort of conflict in society. Throughout the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the Montagues and Capulets have conflict between their families that is unresolved. The Montagues and Capulets fighting is truly the reason for Romeo and Juliet's deaths, by causing conflict and fights within the city.
The first time the families fighting is significant is when Romeo and Juliet realize their love is forbidden. Due to the two families being enemies, they must keep it a secret. Romeo realizes this, and says, “Then plainly know my heart's, dear love is set on the fair daughter of rich Capulet,” (II.ii.57-58). Romeo isn’t allowed to …show more content…

Juliet’s parents believe the way to end her mourning is to have her married. Little do they know that, but their daughter is already married. The Capulets set up a date for the wedding, the next Thursday. Juliet goes to the church to talk to the Friar that previously married her, Friar Lawrence. Once she is at the cellar, she runs into her soon- to- be husband, Paris. As they talk, Paris discusses Juliet being a wife, she tells him, “That may be sir, when I may be a wife,” (IV.i.19).Throughout the end of the play, Juliet uses phrases with double meanings, and this is one of those times. She is hinting at the fact that she is already married, but Paris sees it as she is going to be a wife. After they meet at the cellar, Juliet and her father get into a disagreement over whether she should be married. He says to her, “But, and you will not wed, I’ll pardon you! Graze where you will, you shall not house with me,” (III.v.89-90). Juliet's father is telling her that is she doesn’t marry Paris, she will be kicked out of their house. Therefore, she decides that she must find a way around marrying paris without getting kicked out of her
