QUOTATIONS
1. “Retain that dear perfection which he owes / Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name; / and for thy name, which is not part of thee, / Take all myself” (II.ii.46-49). Juliet says these lines during the night when she is on the balcony, talking out her thoughts on Romeo. Also, during this scene Romeo is listening to all the thoughts that Juliet is speaking out loud without her knowing. Juliet is expressing her concerns that she is in love with a Montague and she doesn’t think that her family will be approving their relationship. Juliet questions why does Romeo have to be a Montague. During this soliloquy, Juliet also says the famous lines,” What’s in a name? That which we call a rose / By any other word would smell as sweet”, meaning that a name is a name and a person is a person and the name does not label the person (II.ii.43-44). This is the first sign of Juliet confessing her love to Romeo to the woods.
2. “Within the infant rind of this weak flower / Poison hath residence and medicine power / For this, being smelt, with that part cheers each part; / Being tasted, stays all senses with the heart”(II.iii. 23-26). The biggest danger is the reaction that the Lord and Lady’s of the House of Montague and Capulet if they found out that they decided to get married. If the parents were to find out of their decision, would they get mad or be okay with the decision, or whatever the outcome to be is a fear that must be running through Romeo and Juliet’s head, but they are too in love to think about the consequences of making impulsive
