Romeo and Juliet Final Essay The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is widely known in today’s day and age, despite being written all the way back in the early 1590’s. The story is known in all corners of the world at this point, if you were talking to someone who did not speak the same language, it can almost be guaranteed that they would know the story of Romeo and Juliet, but for those who don’t know Romeo and Juliet is the story of two lovers from rivaling houses who don’t put their feud down for anyone. The lovers got married in secret and had less than a day of peace as later that same day, Romeo killed Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt who had killed Romeo’s cousin, Mercutio. As presumed, Romeo did not receive the message from Friar Lawrenece on time, but instead his squire found him and let him know that his lover was dead. “Then she is well, and nothing can be ill. O, pardon me for bringing these ill news, since you did leave it for my office, sir.” (V.i.17-23) Had Friar Lawrence told Juliet to await the next day before drinking the potion and telling her father she agreed to the marriage, the marriage would not have been pushed up, they would have had time to wait to ensure that Romeo knew of the plan, better yet Friar Lawrence could have gone to deliver the message himself or waited for the return of his messenger. Juliet, as stated before, may easily be blamed for her own death. The most whiny brat in all of Verona who did not want to get married or get near a man has finally set her mind to a suitor, but it turns out to be a man from her houses arch enemies. Has it also been mentioned that the timespan between them meeting and getting married was less than fourteen hours? “And with this knife I'll help it presently.
