In the Romeo and Juliet play, fate play a huge part in the whole entire play through various ways and through many moments. The role and power of fate play a big part in the overall theme of the play leading up to the ending of the play. There are various examples of fate playing a big part in the theme of this play and affecting the overall theme. These examples are all over the play in different forms and all affect the play leading up to the ending of the play in an ironic form. One example of how fate affected the theme of the play of Romeo and Juliet is whenever Juliet threatens to kill herself if the Friar does not help her. “Come, cords,-Come, Nurse. “A gentler judgment vanished from his lips: Not body’s death, but body’s banishment.” (III, III, 10-11) This quote is from Friar Lawrence telling Romeo of the Prince's punishment that banishes him instead of giving him the death penalty. This affects the fate because this leads to Romeo being banished which leads to Juliet faking her death just to be with Romeo and then a misunderstanding happening while he is banished. Another final example from the text that affects the fate of the play is throughout the whole play, when the Nurse finds out that Romeo and Juliet are married and yet she still does not tell anyone while she knows that her and Paris are getting married even though she cannot marry both of them. The Nurse knows about her and Romeo's marriage the whole play from whenever they got married to the end and she did not tell anyone at all about it. If she would have told someone about it, it could have ended a different way, better or worse but either way this is just another even in the fate of the play that affected the theme of the play.
