A Love Born Out of Hatred
In William Shakespeare's play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, there are many events that end the lives of the lovers. As the play progresses, there are various occasions that spark the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. As all the drama starts with the feud between the Capulets and Montagues and their ancient hatred, the young teens’ lives are greatly impacted. While some may believe that Friar Lawrenceś authority is responsible for the deaths that occur in the play, it is in fact the chaos created by the Montagues and Capulets that leads to tragedy. When Tybalt lays eyes on Romeo he immediately feels the urge to kill him. Tybalt sees Romeo at the Capulets dinner party, so out of rage says ¨I´ll not endure him¨ (I.v.73). Clearly, this shows that Tybalt does not want Romeo alive. Tybalt will only be satisfied with Romeo dead. Later on in the play, Tybalt marches the streets to find Romeo and querell, when he then says ¨Romeo the love I bear thee can afford no better term than this thou art villain¨ (III.i.56-57). In this line, Tybalt refers Romeo to a villian. Due to rage, a sword fight has begun. During the fight, Tybalt stabs Mercutio, leaving him to die. Despite their endless love, Romeo and Juliet feel obligated to keep their love undercover. After The lovers meet, Juliet says ¨My only love sprung from my only hate¨ (I.v.135). When Romeo realizes he wants to marry Juliet he goes to Friar Lawrence, who says ¨For this alliance may so happy prove./ To turn your households´ rancour to pure love. (II.iii.93-94). He agrees to the marriage in hopes it will mend the family feud. After Romeo and Juliet die, the prince says ¨See what a scourge is laid upon your hate,/ that heaven finds means to kill your joys with love¨ (V.iii.296-297).
