It is said that Shakespeare did not make Romeo and Juliet entirely by himself. An earlier version was written in Italy and then translated into poetic verse by a man named Arthur Brooke around 1562; he titled it The Tragically History of Romeo’s and Juliet. (Focus on obedience to parents). Shakespeare made Romeo and Juliet star crossed lovers as opposed to Brooks focus on the disobedience of the children. The Major theme has to deal with feud between two families as results of insults to their name, which was important enough to begin a fight. Romeo and Juliet was written at a time of different beliefs on family loyalty, astrology and dignity. The first topic I am going to talk about is the time and the place. To start this off "Star-cross'd" means "opposed (crossed) by the stars," the arbiters of man's fate. Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet, are the "pair of star-cross'd lovers" whose misadventures and deaths will finally put an end to the feud. The young couple knew they were breaking the laws, and knew they would die from not listening to their parents. Therefore, Shakespeare presents the couple as star crossed lovers doomed to disaster by fate. Romeo and Juliet both knew what they were doing and what they had to do. They made a decision to lead up to the disaster. Shakespeare believes that it is unreasonable for the two lovers to be separated by their selfish feuding families. But when a fight between Montagues and Capulets they’re civil blood turns to civil hands uncleansed. Juliet and Romeo are both determined to find a way to be together and get married despite their enemy status. Experienced the plague during the Elisabeth era, During the play there was an actual plague going around that killed over 100,000 people.
