Love is a mystery that over the ages, has been known as one of the scariest things of life. This known to be true in the play, Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Paris love women who don’t return the feeling; Juliet to be married to Paris; Romeo and Juliet meet and fall in love. All happened within the span of a week. Love is an unpredictable thing that can be glorious and frightening.
One of the first examples of the gloriousness of love was early in the play when we are just getting to know the characters. This is when Romeo first meets Juliet (Act 1 Scene 5) at the Capulet party celebrating their family name. Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. What’s Montague? It is nor hand, nor foot, nor arm, nor any part belonging to a man. O, be some other name! What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call’d, retain that dear perfection which he owes without that title. Romeo, doff thy name; and for that name, which is not part of thee, take all myself. ” (Act 2 Scene 2) Now Juliet is now doing the same as Romeo and is overcome by the same passion as Romeo is. Romeo hears what Juliet has to say and pops out saying and starts comparing his love to great things such as the moon, but Juliet stops him telling him to not compare their love to the moon but to something greater and something that doesn’t come and go. This then soon leaves to the idea of getting married. Not only were Romeo and Juliet were the problems with their relationship, but so was the people who influenced them, positively or negatively. Although Juliet and Romeo had organized with Friar Laurence to get married the next day, Juliet’s parents had other plans from what Juliet was aware was going on. Juliet was arranged to marry Paris, a handsome, wealthy kinsmen to the Prince.
