The tragedy “Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare is about obsession and reveals how being obsessed can lead to horrible things through the obsession of being with one a only that person, being so obsessed one would want to die by their loved ones side, and being so obsessed with a lover that one would rather die than be without them. Only wanting to be with one and only that person shows obsession because of the measures one takes to only be with that person. Capulet is trying to speed the wedding date as he says "Monday! ha, ha, well Wednesday is too soon, O Thursday let it be.” because he is obsessed with hosting the wedding (3.4.20-21) . As the days get closer to the wedding day Juliet starts worrying because she only wants to be with Romeo. She begs for the temporary poison and says “give me, give me o, tell me of fear!” because she would rather risk her life than be with Paris (4.1.122) . After hearing the news about Juliet's alleged death Romeo seeks out for a way to end his life almost immediately. He finds poison and makes his way over to her tomb with the thought “Well, Juliet I will lie with thee tonight" because he is so obsessed with her that he is planning on ending his life so he doesn't live without her (5.1.36) . When Romeo gets to Juliet's tomb, he spots Paris and fights him outside her tomb. When Romeo was just about to kill him, Paris’s last words were “Oh, I am slain! If thou be merciful open the tomb. Lay with Juliet.” Showing his obsession, because those were his last wishes (5.3.72-73).
