Romeo And Juliet: The Relationship Between George And Lennie

Having a good and healthy relationship is the most important thing two individuals are able to have together. There has to be good communication, trust and respect but that does not always seem to occur in many relationships. Romeo and Juliet are a couple that show us how not everyone has a good connection. These two characters are dragged together by infatuation and not by having a vigorous relationship. But we can always display how there can be a good relationship by comparing Romeo and Juliet to George and Lennie. There are many occasions in which either Lennie or George defend each other and make sure neither gets tortured or punished. As Lennie talks to Crooks in the bunkhouse, there seems to be a small argument going on about George and how he may get hurt. This brings up how Lennie makes the desicion to stand up and say something to defend George. “Lennie growled back to his seat on the nail keg. Ain’t nobody goin’ to talk no hurt to George,” he grumbled. (Steinbeck 72.) We are able to imagine how Lennie respects and wants to protect George in any way no matter what he has done. This type of guidence is shown all throughout the book and it really captures how these two have a good relationship. There is also another scene where the same two people, Lennie and Crooks, seem to be speaking about a problem that George may be involved in. Again, Lennie looks after George and makes sure that the people around him get to actually know who George is and why he would not want to hurt anyone. “He won’t, ” Lennie cried frantically. “He won’t do anything like that. I know George. Me an’ him travels together” (Steinbeck 102.) Lennie is always there to back George up because he does not want
