The author of Romeo and Juliet , is William Shakespeare. In the play, two lovers fall in love, much to their parent’s despise. They go through fights, marriages, tragedies together. In the end, many tragedies had taken place and countless lives were lost. Friar Laurence should be blamed and punished for the tragedy of the play, Romeo and Juliet, because of neglectance, Romeo’s death, and Juliet’s death. First, Friar Laurence did not get the letter to Romeo, or try to find him quickly enough. Friar Laurence said (after talking to Friar John), “Unhappy fortune! Romeo says, “And that the lean abhorred monster keeps / Thee here in dark to be his paramour? / For fear of that I still will stay with thee” (V.iii.104-106.) This shows that Romeo was still grieving and was not thinking straight. If Friar Laurence would have been there, he could of stopped Romeo from killing himself. This would have also stopped Lady Montague’s death and others grieving. Third, Friar Laurence’s caused the death of Juliet. Friar said to Juliet, “Come, come away / Thy husband in thy bosom there lies dead / … / Come, I’ll dispose of thee among a sister hood of holy nuns” (V.iii.158-161.) Friar is telling Juliet to run away and that he will dispose her to a sisterhood of nuns. Afterwards, when Juliet won’t listen, he runs away. If he would have stayed with Juliet, Juliet would be alive. Instead, he was selfish and thought about himself first. Because of neglectance of the letter, Romeo’s death, and Juliet’s death, Friar Laurence is to blame. He always had very bad plans especially when trying to help Romeo and Juliet. This ‘plans’ lead to many grievances injuries, banishments, and even death’s. So, Friar is the one at fault for the tragedies of the play.
