One might see young love as a learning experience, while others may view it as an awaiting heartbreak. Many people assume that young love never lasts because couples have flaws and imperfections they have not learned to resolve. In the story, “Romeo and Juliet”, William Shakespeare reveals Romeo and Juliet’s flaws. Romeo and Juliet’s toxic passion for each other ended just as one would expect. The couple had a lack of experience in relationships and displayed love powerfully. The desperation to be in love caused many of their flaws which ultimately led to their deaths. Juliet gave the impression of being naive when she said, “What's in a name? that which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet; So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd.”(Act 2, Scene 2, Line 45) Juliet was being selfishly naive because she did not consider the significance of ideas outside of her own experiences. Juliet assumed that the name Montague did not mean anything to Romeo. Being controlling and inconsiderate in a relationship is toxic and can cause it to come to an end. Shakespeare displayed naivety later in the story when Romeo tells Friar, “I’ll tell thee as we pass, but this I pray, That thou consent to marry us today.”(Act 2, Scene 3, Line 67) When Romeo used the term “marry” he was letting his naivety takeover. Marriage is a forever commitment, and he was promising Juliet marriage after one night. Due to the lack of experience, Romeo was not quite familiar with the sacrifices that come with a marriage.
